What It Amounts To...
The actual work of making a difference is often- gritty, grimy, heavy, gut-wrenching, heart-breaking, burden-bearing, exhausting, emotionally draining, financially taxing, frustrating, and never-ending! Need I say more?
Can I be honest, I felt a bit discouraged when we had to postpone our July 2019 trip to Haiti due to the prolonged political unrest on the ground. It made it unsafe to travel, but more importantly, we wanted to ensure the best stewardship of the funds generously given to us by our donors.
I could help to feel that right when we gained so much momentum and excitement; we came to a screeching halt. What do you do in those moments…
You deepen your resolve, not because it's glamorous, but whether we like or not- that's what it takes.
It was not easy sending an update to our donors amid some unstated skepticism and say, despite this small hurdle (in which we know won't be the last), we look forward to our January 2020 trip.
There have been many days I cried and said, “God if you not with us, just let me know. Please don't let me waste precious time and resources.” In those moments, I am often reminded, deep in my heart and soul, that every difference-maker faced deep levels of discouragement.
Even Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36-46). However, Christ knew he had to move forward to quite literally SAVE THE WORLD.
The truth is that somehow all the “gritty, grimy, heavy, gut-wrenching, heart-breaking, burden-bearing, exhausting, emotionally draining, financially taxing, frustrating, and never-ending” amounts to fulfillment, purpose and most of all being WORTH IT. I know for sure that is God’s doing!
