Less, Better... MORE

Dear life-changer,

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a philanthropist. I stumbled on that word very early in life when I was doing a project on Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates. The word philanthropist was used to define both people. I knew that I did not want (and could not) be them, but I did want to “promote the welfare of others, especially by the generous donation of money to good causes.” I had one problem- I did not have their money or their fame.

I still don’t (yet). The best thing I can offer the world is my most most valuable and priceless possessions: my time, talent and tools. I guess that is why minimalism appealed to me. The practice of minimalism is all about living with less.

I want to ensure that I do not waste money on things that will bog my mind and life, leaving me with little room to focus on what was important to me- making a difference. To be honest, the practice of minimalism significantly contributed to my ability to move to Johannesburg. But I had to do more than minimize my life I had to maximize it. I had to learn how to use LESS to produce MORE.

In a conversation one night with my roommate in Joburg about minimalism and my desire to figure out how to do MORE, she handed me this book her mother gave her called, “Essentialism” by Greg McKeown. She mentioned how she thought this book aligned with the values of my life and I should read it.

GAME CHANGER!

So much about the principles in this book aligned with what I want to do. This book is an ESSENTIAL read (pun intedend). I vow to use essentialism to protect my TIME, TALENTS and TOOLS in order to make the highest and best contribution to society that I possible can.

Don’t get me wrong; I know how important money is to our efforts. Quite frankly, it's vital and I am still seeking ways to earn and raise it. However, in the meantime, I am committed to figuring out how to do LESS but BETTER in order to produce MORE!

P.S. Did you know that a small donation can do way MORE than you can imagine in Haiti! Click here to help us do more but better with less!
