The Cake was Still Good...
Dear life-changer,
I was in church this morning, and the worship leader said something very salient. He said, “when life brings you disappointment, it should drive you to an appointment with God!” There is always something to learn through life’s disappointments.
I remember when we did a Give Back Happy Hour event last year in partnership with an organization at a popular restaurant in Washington, DC. We promoted, marketed and sent people to patron the restaurant. The restaurant promised to give us 10% of the proceeds that night. We got NOTHING. Both the organization (that was hosting) and I followed up with the restaurant management to no avail. It was disappointing mainly because the proceeds were slated to support our upcoming medical missions trip that year.
As disappointment settled in, I never stop to reflect or think to ask God why? I chalked it up to a bad deal (although rooted in great intentions). Didn’t want the disappointment to overwhelm me and had to figure out how to raise the rest of the money- so I plowed ahead.
However, it hit me later on after church today, that the event did not cost me much. We raised awareness about our initiative and made some excellent connections. It was my expectation of making money for the trip that drove my disappointment.
The lesson: It would have been icing on the cake if we had received our promised donation. After all, what’s cake without icing? But as I reflect I must say, the cake was still good.
The Lord did provide for us that year through the generous support of donors like you. We are heading back again in January 2020, click here and consider a small donation to finally put the icing on the cake! ;)
