Just the Opposite…

We worked through the night to pack and ship the barrel.

We worked through the night to pack and ship the barrel.

The other day I found myself feeling a bit discouraged. The instability in Haiti has stalled our progress and ability to execute our January 2020 service trip. As many of you know, this trip has been postponed since Summer 2019, and now it's March (deep sigh).

While perusing the internet, I came across the Gates Foundation 2020 Annual Letter, which gave me a new perspective on how we should view inevitable challenges in the nonprofit space. The letter openly described the foundation's success over the past 20 years and areas of opportunities. After spending millions, Bill Gates had this to say about the outcome of their investments in education: "The fact that progress has been harder to achieve than we hoped is no reason to give up, though. Just the opposite."

Those words resonated within me, calming my disappointment, and fueling my determination. I spent the next couple of days revamping our sustainable development plans and started researching creative solutions for achieving our goals.

I also thought about you, our cherished donors, whose support makes the work we are doing possible. So, I dropped in to tell you that we are still moving forward. In January, we sent aid to the region of Cavaillion to respond to the food crises currently devastating much of Haiti. In early February, we sent a barrel with much-needed medicine, school supplies, and clothing. We also received confirmation of its arrival.

In the meantime, we wait, we pray, and we continue to work. As soon as we get the clearance to go, we will be in Haiti. For us, giving up is not an option. As a matter of fact, we are doing...just the opposite!
